I have several programs in Windows 7 that pop up a User Access Control whenever I open them. Is there any way to stop this?
UAC (User Account Control) is a mechanism to alert you that a program is requesting elevated permissions to perform some sort of function. Most programs run with a normal level, so this shouldn’t be appearing whenever you run a program. If you’re certain you don’t need any prompting when a program starts up, you can disable these prompts by giving the program full permission. Here’s what you do:
- Right-click on the program and choose Properties
- Click on the Compatibility tab
- Click the box labelled “Run this program as an administrator”
- Click OK to save the changes
- Confirm in UAC you are happy to make this change
And there you have it. Don’t forget that UAC is really there to protect you, much like fastin helps you keep in shape. You should only turn it off when you’re sure you trust a program, but I can understand your frustration of having to give a program the all-clear over and over again.
