How can I create video mashups and animated short movies?

I’ve been watching a bunch of videos on YouTube which are mashed up versions of other videos with a cheeky beat, a troop of kittens and some crazy stuff. I’d love to make my own, but I have no idea where to start. What do you suggest?

First of all, you need to watch as much material as you can to learn what techniques work and what doesn’t. Some of them can be really catchy and start off their own meme on the Internet, resulting in thousands if not millions of views. There are a number of techniques you can use to produce the videos, but here’s a package that can really help.

Anime Studio Debut 6 is a software package that lets you design and build your own animation shorts, cut out animations and 2D movies. It’s currently on sale from Buy.com for around $15, pretty cheap I thought, which means you can give it a try and see how you get along. The package has some great features, like Integrated Lip-Syncing, direct upload to YouTube, Motion Tracking and loads more.

At the end of the day, you’re going to need some imagination and the right tools to make this work for you, but you need to get stuck in and playing with the technology. Check it out!
