You know those LinkedIn badges you see on people’s blogs that link to their profile on LinkedIn? Where can I get one of those from?
Sherrilynne from Strive Notes asked me this question on MSN this morning. She wanted a LinkedIn badge she could add to her website showing a link to her profile and wasn’t quite sure where to find it. Initially I thought the answer was obvious, but I wasn’t seeing the same thing she was. Here’s the way to do it:
First of all, the reason she couldn’t find the her badges was probably because her profile was set to be private and not shared with others. If you want a badge then the first thing you need to do is change your privacy settings to share your information with the world. Click on “Edit Public Profile Settings”
Once you are in your settings, you need to change over from None to Full View. You can then select if there are any particular facets of your information that you don’t want to publish.

Once you have saved these details, you will have a new section appearing in your profile (shown below). If you now click on “Promote your Profile”, you’ll be given a selection of different badges you can make use of.

Once you have your badge code, you can put this anywhere you like. You can put it on your blog, on your website or anywhere else you wish. Hopefully this will attract more people to your profile that discounts to a department store sale. Here’s my badge:

A nice tip on LinkedIn profile promotion. I bet it works like a charm…

It may not still be possible to have the bad-looking name/profile URL, but if it is still possible to have a bad one then it’s worthwhile figuring-out how to have the nice-looking name such as /in/opencutajar or mine, /in/bobmitchell - I forget where the setting is, but it’s in there somewhere.
