We have a Latest News Section on our website which we try to keep updated with information about our company and other news from the industry. They don’t seem to help much in bringing traffic to the website though. Is there anything we can do to help improve things?
It’s not the first time I’ve had this query from webmasters, particularly those running commercial sites and responsible for attracting traffic to their website. It’s not always easy to recommend what can be done, however sometimes looking at a website can help you identify what can be done to improve things.
One website I was looking at, was the one of Fentons, a personal injury company that works with it’s clients to help get compensation for problems they may have. It’s an interesting company in that they do not work with Accident Management companies. Their website has a number of different topics, but also has a section where they display Latest News and Latest Case Studies.
Looking at their news section, the one thing that stands out is that their website doesn’t have an RSS feed. What’s an RSS feed:
An RSS document (which is called a “feed,” “web feed,” or “channel”) includes full or summarized text plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship. Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content quickly and automatically.
An RSS feed would allow people to subscribe to any new content from the website and be notified as soon as there is new news. It also allows other tools, like RSS readers and desktop gadgets, to pull information down from the website and show the latest content automatically.
So if you’re looking to enhance your website and drag more visitors to come read your news, look into adding an RSS feed, you won’t look back
