I’m off to Disneyworld with the family and am looking for a decent camcorder. I’d like an HD one, but my budget is only $250. Any ideas where I can find one at that price?

I got this question a couple of days ago and it struck a chord as we’re currently looking into a Disney holiday as well. So I thought I’d try and get it answered asap. Well, HD camcorders do seem to be in vogue at the moment, but unless you go for one of these small, portable, solid-state ones, you’re usually looking in the region of $1000 on Amazon for a decent one. Personally, I would try and get one which takes DVD media or even contains a hard disk, so you won’t run out of space for your movie.

Anyway, while I was looking around I came across an option that might fit your bill. It’s actually a refurbished camcorder which is currently on sale from Buy.com at just under $250. It’s a Canon HR-10 (shown alongside) and boasts some spectacular features for that price. It has a 10x optical zoom and records true HD; and you can get up to 100 minutes of video on a disc (depending on what disks and recording mode you use). All in all a nice package and one you can use to record some great memories of your family.

It’s worth noting that as it’s refurbished you only get 90 days warranty, but I don’t think I’ve seen a price like this; so it might be worth checking out.
