How do I protect my computer from spyware?

My computer has just been cleaned from what was described as a “massive spyware infection”. The engineer who cleared it for me installed a program that was supposed to keep it clean for me, but I seem to have deleted it off my machine. Is there something you recommend I could use?

Hi Doug, first of all, it’s great that you found someone to clean your computer up. It’s important to make sure your computer is protected at all times, as you never know where your next virus can come from. Now, in most cases, I would recommend one of a number of free packages you could use. However, the fact that you deleted your software and don’t know how to get your hands on it suggests that you may need a more comprehensive package that can look after your machine.

One package you might want to consider is called Norton 360. It’s a comprehensive suite of components that can protect your computer from all sorts of nasties, from viruses, spyware, botnets and identity thieves. It’s currently on sale from Buy.com at $36, which is not bad considering the level o protection you get. After all, it’s not software you’re buying, it’s peace of mind.

Regardless of what software you use, there are 2 things you need to make sure you have installed on your machine, an anti-virus and and and anti-spyware package. Norton has them both built into one application, but you can also have them in two seperate apps if you prefer. Just make sure you’re protected.
