How can I easily play movies on my new HD TV?

I’m looking for an easy way to stream a movie to my HD TV. I don’t want to have cables running all over the place and I really don’t want to be messing around with WiFi. Is there an easy way to just do it?

There are a number of options on how to do this, but if you don’t want to play around with networking the best option would be to take the movie to your TV. Again, there are a number of ways to do this, I used to burn AVIs to a DVD, because my DVD player used to just play them.

One great gadget to do this is the Western Digital WDTV HD Media Player. It’s a device with eh HDMI output that lets you plug a USB drive into it and will play them for you on your TV. It takes a wide range of formats including MPEG 1/2/4, WMV9, AVI (MPEG4,Xvid, AVC), H.264, MKV, MOV (MPEG4, H264), but can also play a slideshow of images, or even play music. The great thing about it is that you an have a number of USB devices, portable hard disks, USB sticks etc, and you can just switch the your media to another device anytime you want. It even comes with a remote control to let you choose what you want to watch. It’s currently on sale from Buy.com for around $60.

Enjoy the movie!
